Carloway River

Carloway River is located in an unspoilt area of the Isle of Lewis within easy access of a number of key visitor attractions including The Callanish Stones, Carloway Broch and Gearrannan Blackhouse Village as well as quiet beaches and coastal walks. There is a variety of accommodation available including Gearrannan Blackhouse Village, Doune Braes Hotel, and a good selection of self-catering properties.

Urras Oighreachd Chàrlabhaigh (Carloway Estate Trust) is a community landowner.  Carloway Estate covers 11,500 acres on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis, with over 200 crofts spread across the townships of Callanish, Breasclete Park, Breasclete, Tolsta Chaolais, Doune Carloway, Kirivick, Knock Carloway and a number of outlying islands.

There is bank and loch fishing available with 3 miles of bank fishing and 3 lochs (Loch Laxabhat Ard, Loch Laxabhat Iorach and Loch Airigh na Seibh). The main season runs from 1st May to 15th October with no Sunday allowed. It is mandatory catch & return for all salmon caught in the 2023 season.
